Flemming Raring For Next Race

HALIFAX, NS (May 30, 2011) – Three-time Maritime Pro Stock Tour champion John Flemming is eager to get behind the wheel of his No. 97 The Roofing Connection Dodge Charger this Saturday at Petty International Raceway in River Glade, New Brunswick. Why? Because he wants to win - and soon.
"We had the checkered flag in our sights at Scotia Speedworld a couple weeks ago," said Flemming, who led 80 of 100 laps in the series season opener. "Even though we didn't get that one, we left with a smile on our faces. We know the changes we made over the winter are working and we know what caused our downfall when the brakes went away in the closing laps at Scotia."
And even though he is one of a few racers to have competed at the soon-to-be-reopened Petty facility, he doesn't feel any great advantage in that regard.
"First, there are a lot of great race cars out there this year," said Flemming. "Maybe the best field ever. Second, the cars are so different now from 10 years ago that we're all starting from scratch."
However, with the support of a great team and sponsors like The Roofing Connection, along with Dartmouth Dodge and King Freight Lines, Flemming does feel an advantage heading for Petty -both contributing factors, along with his multitude of loyal fans, for the recent launch of a new website at FlemmingMotorsports.ca.
"We want to make it easy for them to keep up with us," said Flemming. "It's the least we can do to repay them for their years of support."
Flemming carries a slim point three-point lead to Petty over fellow three-time Maritime Pro Stock Tour champion Shawn Tucker, who won the first race of the year. Fellow Maritime champ Wayne Smith trails Tucker by nine markers.
"If we win races the points will take care of themselves," said Flemming. "It's that simple."
Flemming's recollection of racing at Petty?
"It was an exciting place to race," said Flemming, "tight racing, but I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to going back there."
The bottom line: John Flemming has his confidence back.
A good thing – for Flemming, for his fans, and for Maritime stock car racing.
